Green Man Problems

Retro Exchange, or as many people know it as the place with the green naked man in the front, is a thrift store in San Marcos, Texas.

Mona Yarovinsky, the owner of the store, was surprised when asked about the green man.

"I've never been asked what the idea behind the green man is all about, it's really kind of funny," Yarovinsky said.

She explained how one of her friends who specialized in decorating came up with the idea of having a green mannequin, and when she told Yarovinsky, she was adamant about the idea.

Yarovinsky said, "I was afraid the mayor was gonna come knock on my door and tell me to take it down, so I put it in the store for about two months and asked every customer what they thought."

After some positive reinforcement from her friends at her church and customers, she finally decided to put it on top of her store.

"I felt it was risky, but I guess that's what pulls people into my store," Yarovinsky said.

Even though many people know the mascot of Retro Exchange as "the green naked man" his real name is nothing other than John.

"John was a simple, ordinary and not well thought out name for our mascot, but that's what we ended up with," Yarovinsky said.
